A youth was shot dead by miscreants at Mahakhali in squeal of enmity while an elderly man died after being beaten by his neighbours at Adabar in the capital on Tuesday.
Bashir Mina, 35, who used to collect money by providing water and electric connection in slums, was allegedly shot by one Dipu at Wireless Gate in the area following a long standing enmity over establishing supremacy.
Witnesses said Dipu along with his associate riding on a motorbike arrived near Beltala at Wireless Gate at about 3:30pm and shot Bashir at close range.
Bashir was gossiping at a rice shop in the area. He was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died at about 5:45pm.
Earlier in February, Dipu allegedly stormed into Bashir’s house at Badda Gudaraghat and opened fire, leaving his daughter Nisath critically injured.
The Banani police were investigating the case.
At Adabar, one Liton hit the elderly man, Ratan, 70, with a stick following an altercation between neighbours on Monday night.
Ratan was rushed to the Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where he died early on Tuesday, his family said.
Police on information recovered the body and sent it to the DMCH for post mortem examination.
Liton escaped arrest while police detained two including Liton’s wife in this connection.
