Bangladesh will face group favourites Iran in their final group B match of the AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship qualifiers at the Bangabandhu National Stadium today.
To qualify in the final round in China next year, Bangladesh must win this match by nine goals and hope India slip against Jordan in the other match of the day.The hosts therefore stopped thinking about the qualification and set their sights on a mere win that will help them end the tournament on a high with nine points from the available 12.
Bangladesh, who started their campaign with two morale-boosting wins against Jordan and UAE, tasted the first defeat against India by a narrow 1-2 margin despite taking an early lead.
‘Our main target is to continue our previous form,’ Bangladesh U-16 team coach Golam Rabbani Choton said.
If we can maintain it, a win against Iran is not impossible though they are the toughest team in our group.’
