The Under-23 Bangladesh national football team survived a huge scare before managing a heart-fought 5-4 victory against Bangladesh Army at the Army Stadium on Saturday.
Bangladesh team went to the break 4-2 down against the army side but made a comeback in the second half by scoring three goals thanks to Atiqur Rahman Meshu’s hat-trick.
Wahed Ahmed and Aminur Rahman Sajib scored one goal apiece while Army captain scored a brace. Silon Khan and Minhajul Abedin scored one goal each for the defence side to make the game an exciting one.
Dutch assistant coach Rene Koster was happy to see his charges win the game but he was annoyed with his poor defence line.
‘I’m very much worried about the defence line because they conceded four goals in the first half but it was also true that due to bad weather we could train in the last one week,’ Koster said after the match.
Bangladesh will face Nepal Under-23 team on Tuesday at the same venue but Koster was not happy with the condition of the field.
‘It was horrible. We came here to play football but due to wet pitch and the opponent’s physical play, our players suffered in the first half,’ Koster added.
