The Hamidur Rahman Youth Under-18 Shooting Championship gets underway at the BSSF Complex in Gulshan today. Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation introduced the competition in a bid to find out the hidden talents across the country. Some 120 teenagers, including girls from 25 clubs across the country will contest in the 10-metre Air Pistol (M/W), 50-metre Rifle Prone (M/W) and 10-metre Air Rifle (M/W) events.
The BSSF has planned to select the shooters from the championships to provide them further training with a target to produce good results in the 2020 Olympics.
The selected players will initially be sent to five Rifle clubs – Kushtia, Pabna, Tangail, Dhaka and Chittagong Metropolis – and the federation will provide all logistic supports including pocket money of the players, informed BSSF joint secretary Ishfaq Ahmed.
