The Bangladesh Under-19 national football team were held to a goalless draw by Pakistan in their final Group C game of the AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers at the Francouse Al-Hareeri Stadium in Arbil City, Iraq on Saturday. The six best runners-up sides will join the nine group champions in the final round next year in Myanmar, who have already qualified automatically as hosts.
Considering Group E which has three teams, only the results of the top three teams of all the other eight groups will be taken into account. Bangladesh’s fate was still to be determined as the two other teams of the group, Iraq and Kuwait were facing each other till the filing of this report.
Bangladesh lost their opening game 6-0 against hosts Iraq before pipping Kuwait 1-0 in their second game. However, Bangladesh failed to beat Pakistan which would have kept the former in contention for a best runners-up place. All the qualifying games were scheduled to end on Saturday night after which it will be decided whether Bangladesh goes through.
