Poll schedule announcement today
The Election Commission will hold upazila election in the middle of next month, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said yesterday.
The election to 113 upazilas will be held in the first phase, the CEC told journalists after a meeting with senior officials of different ministries at the Election Commission Secretariat.
The EC will announce the schedule for holding polls in 113 upazilas today.
He said it will not be possible to hold elections to all upazilas at the same time.
The Election Commission has a plan to hold elections to all upazilas in phases considering the aspect of law and order.
“We are now discussing with the concerned ministries about how to arrange the polls as S.S.C and H.S.C examinations are approaching,” Rakibuddin said.
He said the EC does not want to create a situation that might disturb S.S.C and H.S.C candidates.
“According to the law, we want to hold the upazila elections on time. And at the same time we will try our best not to disturb the S.S.C and H.S.C candidates,” the CEC said.
After discussion with the concerned ministries, the date of upazila election will be finalised, Rakibuddin said.
Replying to a query on the election schedule, he said decision will be taken soon.
The EC held a meeting with the secretaries of LGRD and Cooperatives and Primary and Mass Education ministries. Four Election Commissioners and Election Commission secretary were also present in the meeting.
