Students of University of Science and Technology, Chittagong on Saturday besieged the office of pro-vice-chancellor AHM Ishaque Chowdhury as the authorities concerned failed to meet their demands within the deadline set by them. The agitating students formed a human chain in front of the university in the morning and at one stage, they laid siege to the office of the pro-VC from 11:00am. The pro-VC was confined in his office till filing of the report.
Sumon Islam, a final year student of electric and electronics engineering department, said that the authorities had promised to meet their demands by Saturday.
As the authorities were yet to take any steps to fulfil their demands, the agitating students besieged the office of the pro-VC, he added.
Janaseba Foundation, which runs the university, turned a blind eye to the crisis the university was facing now, the students alleged.
Janaseba Foundation chairman Iftekharul Islam promised them that he would meet all the demands within a week except for the membership of Engineering Institute, they said.
The students of the university had been waging movement for the last one month to press for various demands, including appointing permanent deans to each faculty, resolving power crisis on the campus and increasing lab facilities.
