Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad admitted on Wednesday that the electoral might have some little mistakes. But there is no scope to have big mistakes in the electoral roll as it was prepared using an automated system he told reporters when his attention was drawn to the allegation of the leader of the opposition leader Khaleda Zia that the voters’ list had ‘massive anomalies.’
The Election Commission would make full efforts to make the electoral roll flawless, he said.
He also said that the EC had developed a mechanism to find out whether there were any mistakes or double entries in the electoral roll.
It would leave no scope for big flaws in the voters’ list, he said.
‘We have cross-checked the voters’ list through Automated Fingerprint Identification System to exclude persons enlisted twice,’ he said.
‘Duplicate entries have been excluded,’ he said.
The EC would make no compromise with the flawlessness of the electoral roll, he said.
He said an independent organisation which examined the voters’ list found 99 per cent of it free from mistakes.
The CEC said the commission used highly sophisticated software to prepare the electoral database leaving ‘little scope for mistakes’.
He said that the EC was determined to prepare a flawless voters’ list for the 10th parliamentary election so that none can raise questions about it.
Addressing a group of party leaders and workers at her Gulshan office, Khaleda said Tuesday evening a transparent and credible election was not possible with the voters’ list as it has huge anomalies.
