Mountaineer Wasfia Nazreen became the first Bangladeshi to reach the top of the world’s second highest peak K2, the news agency AFP reported on Friday.
Three of the world’s top climbers, Mingma Tenzi Sherpa, Mingma David Sherpa, and Nirmal Purja, were part of her Renata Limited-sponsored expedition.

Wasfia is well known for being the first Bangalee in the world to climb all seven summits, which are the highest mountains on each continent, making herself the only Bangladeshi to do it.
K2 has only been scaled by 425 people since 1954, including only 20 women, and is notably more technically challenging to climb than Everest. K2 also has notoriously fickle weather, reports AFP
K2, also known as “savage mountain”, lies in Karakoram range in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and China. Since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay first reached the summit in 1953, more than 6,000 people have climbed Everest, some of them more than once.
