The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation resumes today
its waterbus service on the Dhaka circular waterway.
The shipping minister, Shajahan Khan, will put into operation four new and two old waterbuses at Gabtoli Waterbus Landing Station at 9:00am, said the corporation director (commercial) Ananda Chandra Biswas.
Although the circular waterway runs from Sadarghat through Gabtoli-Ashulia-Tongi-Purbachal-Demra-Kanchpur-Kanchpur (Narayanganj)-Mir Kadeem-Fatulla-Sadarghat, the water bus service would be launched only between Sadarghat and Gabtoli (Aminbazar) distance.
Ananda Chandra Biswas said the buses would ply from Saturday to Thursday from 7:30am to evening.
He said each of the new waterbus can accommodate 81 passengers and the old one can accommodate 35 passengers.
The minimum waterbus fare is Tk 10 and the maximum fare is Tk 40 on the Sadarghat-Shoary Ghat-Kholamura-Gabtoli route, he added.
Earlier the BIWTC was scheduled to resume the service on May 15 this year but they failed to do that as the manufacturing company – Dhaka Dockyard and Engineering Works – did not hand over two new buses to the corporation.
