A formal countdown to the World Cup 2011 will begin on the South Plaza of the national assembly building at midnight past today, exactly 100 days to go before the match between Bangladesh and India.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has planned a colourful programme for the occasion. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will be among the host of dignitaries at the programme.
The deputy speaker, Shawkat Ali, Bangladesh Cricket Board president AHM Mustafa Kamal and Cricket Sri Lanka general secretary Nisantha Ranatunga will also attend.
A countdown clock held by the official event mascot, Stumpy, will be unveiled at midnight, the countdown clock will be switched and fireworks will be held, the cricket board said.
The mascot will be placed on 12 other locations of the city from where a giant clock will count days, hours, minutes and seconds up to the World Cup.
The countdown will also begin simultaneously in Chittagong, the other host city of Bangladesh. The event is open to the public and the cricket board welcomes everyone to join the countdown.

ICC Development Limited would sign an agreement with Bangladesh Tourism Board in a city hotel allowing it to be a local partner to the event
The tourism board has taken up a plan to emphasise the sites, culture and products of Bangladesh to the world.
As a local partner, the tourism board will receive the broadcast right to show the country brand and the beautiful Bangladesh theme in all ICC broadcasting and in all the products sponsored by the ICC.
The ICC’s official broadcaster Star Sports and ESPN will also air television commercials on tourism in Bangladesh, the tourism board said in the release on Tuesday.
The board will also create a presentation on the country for foreign journalists. It has planned a tour of Sundarban. The board will also set up information booth and brand the airport and hotels to help the tourist.
In the signing ceremony, the ICC general manager (commercial), Campbell Jamieson, will be present, among others.
