The trophy of the World Cup 2011 arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday and will remain here until the opening ceremony at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on February 17.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board, the Local Organising Committee and the ICC sponsors have planned a massive promotional campaign with the trophy beginning today with a road show, organised by Hero Honda.
The arrival of the trophy was, however, kept secret as it coincided with a promotional campaign of another ICC sponsor Reebok in India. When Reebok was celebrating with the replica in India, the original trophy arrived in Dhaka covered by wrapping paper.
Today the trophy will remain in the possession of Hero Honda, who have several promotional campaigns starting with a rally at 9:30am from the premise its local distributor, the Atlas Bangladesh Limited at Tongi.
The road show is expected to reach the Bangladesh Television at Rampura at 10:30am where it will be displayed at a programme. The trophy will then be taken to the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium at 3:00am after a brief stopover at the office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
It will be displayed during the final match of the Hero Honda Hunk Inter-University Cricket Tournament at the stadium where there will be an official photo session for the press photographers.
The Cup will then go to the BCS Computer City where common people will be allowed to take a snap from 7:00pm to 7:30pm. It will then be handed over to the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Pepsi, another ICC sponsor, will receive the trophy from the BCB on February 9 and will keep it in their possession for three days before returning it to the BCB, who will take it to different programmes until February 16.
