In a rather unfamiliar sighting and much to everyone’s surprise, national skipper Mushfiqur Rahim on Saturday rolled his hands with the ball for only the second time in his professional career.
Among the 490 games he has played over the course of his career that includes matches in the international and first-class scene, the diminutive wicket-keeper-batsman has only ever bowled once before Saturday.
And on both occasions, Mushfiq tried his luck with the leather in the longer-version Bangladesh Cricket League.
The very first time Mushfiq bowled happened last year while playing for BCB North Zone against Walton Central Zone at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in his hometown, Bogra.
And not only did he bowl but he also accounted for the wicket of Central Zone’s Nurul Hasan in the first innings, finishing with figure of 1-23 from 10 overs including a maiden.
This time, Mushfiq only bowled two overs for the same franchise without success, conceding 11 runs against Islami Bank East Zone at BKSP 2.
These were rare instances indeed for the Bangladesh captain.
