10-time champions Abahani Limited and last year’s runners up Usha KC both made winning starts in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League at the Moulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium on Saturday. Usha, also the champion of the recently concluded Club Cup, clinched a 9-1 victory over Dhaka Wanderers Club. Penalty corner specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan scored three goals while Rimon Kumar, Krishna Kumar, Maksudul Alam Habul and Mainul Islam Koushik scored one apiece.
The other two conceded by Wanderers were own goals. The consolation goal for the losing side was scored by Mamun.
In the other match of the day, Abahani beat Azad Sporting Club 5-1, thanks to a brace from Ashraful Islam and a goal each from Sheikh Mohammed Nannu, Rumman Sarker and Pushkor Khisa Mimo. Sohanur Rahman pulled one back for Azad SC.
