Reigning champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and last season’s Independence Cup champions Mohammedan Sporting Club started their Federation Cup campaign with a winning note at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday. Jamal thrashed Feni Soccer Club 4-1 in the second match of the day before Mohammedan managed a narrow 2-1 victory over Rahamatgonj MFS.Skipper Mamunul Islam, Nigerian striker Emeka Darlington, Shakhwat Hossain Rony and Gambian Landing Derboe scored for Jamal while Sohel pulled one goal back for the Feni Soccer.
Mohammedan took the lead in the 10th minute through Touhidul Alam Sabuj but Nurul Afsar equalised in the 49th minute. Guinean marksman Ismail Bangoura, however, sealed the victory for Mohammedan with his 88th minute strike.
Today, Abahani Limited will face Farashgonj Sporting Club in the first match while Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra will play against Uttar Baridhara.
