Bangladesh women’s cricket team finished their winless tour to Pakistan on Tuesday with a six-wicket defeat against the hosts in their second and final one-day international at Southend Cricket Stadium at Karachi to lose the series 2-0. Pakistan, who won the first ODI by 20 runs, won the match with 69 balls to spare as they made 124-3 from 38.3 overs, replying to the visitors’ meagre total of 123-9.
Debutant Nigar Sultana and Ritu Moni salvaged little pride of the visitors as they added 47 runs in the eighth wicket partnership to help their side put a three-figure score after too-order failed to shine yet again.
Nigar was not out on 30 off 109 balls while Ritu scored 28.
Bangladesh won the toss and their opening batters Ayesha Rahman and Shamima Sultana made 21 runs in the opening stand before fall of wickets in regular intervals made the score 67-7.
Ayesha was the only batter in the top seven to reach double figure with her 56-ball 39 while Fargana Haque, Lata Mondal and Jahanara Alam each scored a duck.
Rumana Ahmed, who batted well in the series, also failed this time scoring just two and skipper Salma Khatun was out for seven.
Pakistani off-spinner Anam Amin bowled a splendid spell of 10-5-7-4 to break the backbone of visitors’ innings while medium pacer Asmavia Iqbal grabbed 3-28.
Bismah Maroof once again become the highest scorer for her side with a 66-ball 41 with seven boundaries while opener Marina Iqbal made 31 and Nain Abidi scored 22 for the hosts.
Bangladeshi slow left-armer Nahida Akhter got 2-22 while Rumana Ahmed grabbed 1-13.
Apart from losing the ODI series Bangladesh also lost the two-match Twenty20 series 2-0 during the tour, which was suspended once, and highly discussed due to security concerns in Pakistan.
This is the first ever tour of any national side of Bangladesh to Pakistan since an attack on Sri Lanka cricket team at Karachi back on 2009.
