Bangladesh now has 165,158,616 people living there, according to preliminary results from the most recent census.
There are 83,347,206 women and 81,712,824 men in the entire population. Up to 113,063,587 of them reside in rural areas, while 52,009,072 do so in urban areas.

There are 12,629 people of the third gender.
The nation currently has a 74.66 percent literacy rate. In 2011, it was 51.77 per cent.
The results were made public on Wednesday by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) at a press conference held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center.
With a population growth rate of 1.74 percent, Dhaka has the greatest among the eight divisions of the country, while Barisal has the lowest at 0.79 percent.
Population density has increased to 1,119 people per square kilometre. In the previous census, it was 976 per square kilometre.
The census and house enumeration activities started simultaneously across the country on Jun 15 and continued until Jun 28.
