The Bangladesh women’s national team provided a better account of themselves although they eventually fell short by 10 runs in the third and final Twenty20 in Vadodara on Friday as the Indian eves made a clean sweep of the three-match T20 International series.
In their pursuit of India’s challenging score of 123-9, the Bangladeshi eves gave it a real good go before finishing on 113-7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Bangladesh began their reply in a positive frame of mind as they maintained a healthy scoring rate throughout their innings, which they failed to accomplish in the last two T20s. Lata Mondal led the way scoring 32 from 27 balls coming in at number three while opener Shuktara Rahman chipped in with 25 from 37 balls.
The visitors were still in with a chance of claiming a consolation win over their counterparts even after Lata departed with the scoreline reading 79-5 largely due to the last-ditch efforts from Rumana Ahmed and Ritu Moni.
Rumana (15 off 14 balls) and Ritu (15 not out off 11 balls) added some vital runs at the end but the pair had too much to do in very little time as Bangladesh ultimately fell short of their target.
Poonam Yadav (3-21) and Ekta Bisht (2-28) together made sure the hosts were always in the hunt for a victory by scalping wickets at regular intervals.
Earlier, India were indebted to Smriti Mandhana (39 from 36 balls) and Mona Meshram (22 from 22 balls) for their healthy total after winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Panna Ghosh (2-24) continued her good form with the leather while Bangladesh skipper Salma Khatun (2-30) ensured their opponents were unable to post a hefty score with the other bowlers doing their bit.
The teams now move to Ahmedabad, with the first of the three one-day internationals to be played on Monday.
