Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said that her government has been taking the country ahead with specific work plan as its aim is to ensure sustainable development. “We are striving hard to build Bangladesh as a middle income country by 2021 and we have already achieved significant progress to this end,” she said. She was addressing an Iftar party of Bangladesh Administrative Services Association (BASA) on Thursday. “Your main task is to bring smiles on the faces of the common people and reach the government services to the doorsteps of the people speedily and with highest efficiency,” she said.
She sought cooperation of the BASA members to implement the economic uplift programmes taken up by the present government.
She said the officials of the new generation of the administration will have to be more attentive in serving the people by upholding the glorious history and tradition of the country’s Liberation War.
She urged BASA members to work in a sprit of sacrifice.
“You will have to work with utmost sincerity as the implementation of the decisions of the government depends on the performance and efficiency of the field-level officers of the administration,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said the country achieved its hard-earned independence and restored democracy crossing many hurdles from the colonial rule to autocratic regime in different forms including military government, quasi-military government and army-backed caretaker government.
Putting emphasis on the continuation of democratic trend, the Prime Minister said her government wants to develop the country through establishing democracy on a solid footing.
Sheikh Hasina illustrated her government’s impressive successes in various sectors including agriculture, education, health, communication, power, economy and other infrastructures.
The Prime Minister said the people could not see the desired development as the undemocratic government ruled most of the times after the independence.
After assuming office this time, she said, her government has implemented various programmes to take the country towards prosperity and development.
In this regard, she said electricity generation has been increased to 6,675 MW from 3,200 MW of 2009, while gas and water crises have been mitigated to a great extent.
She also elaborated her government’s achievements in attaining socioeconomic development of the country through alleviating poverty and ensuring self- sufficiency in food production.
With BASA President Abu Alam Md Shahid Khan in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by PM’s Advisor on Public Administration HT Imam, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and BASA General Secretary AN Shamsuddin Azad Chowdhury.
A special munajat was offered before the Iftar seeking continued peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.
Prayers were also offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage and the Liberation War heroes.
