Several dejected students were turned away from the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday after some confusion regarding the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s student-entry initiative.
The BCB issued a press release on Monday granting school students free entry into the stadium for the second Test match between Bangladesh and New Zealand from October 21-25 provided they were in school uniform and presented a valid school ID card.
The release also stated that bags will not be permitted on the premises, which led to tearful scenes as security personnel turned away a number of students carrying the school bags they needed for classes that day.
The BCB was eventually apprised of the situation and the rule was amended to allow school bags into the stadium.
‘Yes, there was a misunderstanding in the morning, but we decided to allow the students with school bags after I was notified,’ said BCB security chief Retd. Major Hossain Imam.
