A college student was killed as a bus ran over him in the capital’s Nilkhet area on Saturday afternoon. The deceased, Sajjadul Islam Enamul, 22, was a second year student of National Institute of Information and Technology. New Market police subinspector Kamal Hossain said Enamul was riding a bicycle in the Gausul Azam Market area. At about 2:00pm, a bus of route 13 hit the cycle and ran
over him.
Critically injured, Enamul was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died from injuries at around 3:30pm.
Locals nabbed the bus along with driver.
The driver, Saiful Islam Mintu, was then sent to Shahbagh police station.
Local people vandalised a few vehicles including the bus.
Enamul was the eldest son of the family from Brahmanbaria.
His family said Enamul had a dream to support his family as his father Shafiqul Islam, a security guard of Dhaka University, could hardly manage their livelihood.
