Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday said he want to see Grameen Bank remains unscathed in future.
The microcredit guru told this to the review committee on the issues relating to Grameen Bank while presenting his exit plan at a meeting at Bangladesh Bank.
The government formed the five-member committee, headed by Prof AK Monowar Uddin Ahmed, faculty member of Economics Department of Dhaka University, on January 11 to look into Grameen Bank issues.
Yunus attended the meeting on invitation by the committee.
After the meeting, Monowar told the journalists that the review work is almost complete.
“We will submit the report to the government on April 10”, the committee chief said.
The Nobel laureate has no intention to hold the position of MD in Grameen Bank any longer but he wants to leave the institution with honour, he said quoting Yunus.
“Prof Yunus said he had established the Grameen Bank and wants to hand over the leadership to a competent person so that the future of the institution remain secured”, said the DU professor.
Meeting sources said Prof Yunus informed the committee about his exit plan from the Bank.
The sources also said quoting Yunus that he wants to hand over the responsibility of the bank gradually.
The founder of the bank said he wants to stay as the chairman of the institution till a new leadership is ready to take over.
