For the first time, the 6.15 km Padma bridge was illuminated from end to end as all the lamps on the 415 lampposts on the bridge were switched on this evening.
The 175-watt LED lights illuminated the main bridge with 328 lampposts, 46 on the Jajira side viaduct and 41 on the Mawa side viaduct, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
The lamps were switched on 6:30 pm today, and they would remain on throughout the night, said Padma Bridge Assistant Engineer (Electrical) Saddam Hossein.
He said the lampposts of the entire bridge were connected to two substations of Munshiganj Palli Bidyut Samity and Shariatpur Palli Bidyut Samity.
After illuminating the bridge, local and foreign engineers celebrated their happiness with sweets. Later, they arranged a photo session.
Shafiqul Islam, project director of the Padma Bridge, told The Daily Star, “This is very good news for us. We’ve done a lot of hard work. By illuminating the bridge, our work was illuminated across the Padma. This is a special
achievement for us. There are some things that are being done now. In addition, we are repeatedly examining various issues.”
