Holders Abahani Limited maintained their all-win run in the Citycell Bangladesh League crushing Arambagh KS by 4-0 goals in the day’s lone match at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mostafa Kamal Stadium at Kamalapur on Thursday.
In this impressive four goals win, Enamul struck twice while Sujan and Ibrahim scored a piece to maintain the winning spree collecting full points in five matches in a row.
After an entertaining and almost evenly poised first half with Abahani leading by 1-0, the fight between the holders and Arambagh, contenders for a place among top fives in the league, exploded to life in the second period with three more goals for Sky Blues. And the giants strolled to a convincing 4-0 victory.
Abahani entered the game without their two performers, defender Rajani and striker Robin (yet to play any match in the league) but did not take more time to appear in their familiar face.
Both teams demonstrated their attacking intention right from the start and it was the champions to create the first real opening and the first shoot on target was fashioned up by Zahid Pervej Chowdhury in the very first minute. Zahid Pervej, who picked up a through from Enamul and spun past his markers Din Mohammed and Pradip Barua, took a late shot, which hit the outside net.
But the Dhanmondi outfit went ahead just in the seventh minute through Enamul. Following a free kick from Ibrahim, Pranotosh fired from the top of the box and Arambagh goalkeeper blocked the attempt but the ball came to Enamul’s way, who edged a defender to glance his volley into net (1-0).
Arambagh after conceding the goal, bounced back sharply to fight evenly with the favourites and also threatened for three successive times to make an upset but all their efforts were narrowly missed.
In the 25th minute Subair Muhammed’s charging run and crossed down the right side in the area but a Nicodemus header went over the cross bar and six minutes later a strong left footer of Kabir from 25 yards was saved by Biplob in second attempt.
In the 42nd minute it was a good opportunity for Arambagh to level the margin but the veteran star and the former national captain Alfaz Ahmed failed to contact his head from a close range.
Arambagh although fought evenly in the first half but failed to comply with the fierce attitude of the mighty opponents and were forced to concede three more goals in the post-lemon session and their fragile defence line was responsible for that result.
Abahani enlarged the margin to 3-0 while two goals were scored in a span of two minutes. Defender Sujan doubled the margin in the 55th with a superb header on Ujjal perfect free kick and Ibrahim slammed home one utilising an Enamul minus in the next minute (3-0).
Arambagh were closer to score a goal in the 72nd minute but substitute Nurul Islam missed the chance being left unmarked inside the box, as his shoot on a square pass of Dominic easily saved by Biplob, Abahani keeper.
Enamul had a hattrick chance but he spoiled the scope when he shot straight to Arambagh goalkeeper Mitul in one and one situation.
Enamul closed the account on 84th when the national striker successfully beat Mitul with a powerful right footer from the area on an Ibrahim minus 4-0.
