Title contenders Abahani, Mohammedan and Sheikh Russel registered facile victories over their respective rivals in away matches of the Citycell Bangladesh League in different venues across the country on Saturday.
At the Kamalapur stadium, Dhaka Mohammedan defeated Brothers Union 2-0, Dhaka Abahnai trounced Chittagong Mohammedan 2-0 in Chittagong and Sheikh Russell thrashed Beanibazar 3-0 in Sylhet.
Dhaka Abahani and Dhaka Mohammedan are level on 24 points from eight matches while Sheikh Russell have 22 from the same number of outings.
Mohammedan dominated the scene against Brothers Union throughout the 90 minutes with their attacking instincts and sealed the fate of the match in the first half with two strikes from Nasir Hossain and Nasiruddin.
However, Brother Union sent a chill through their opponents’ spine in the 20th minute when Ghanaian forward Ennock Bentil’s drive hit the crosspiece after Mohammedan goalkeeper Aminul failed to punch it properly.
Defender Nasir Hossain broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when he beat Brothers keeper Jahangir with a placing shot from a Mamunul Islam cross from right wing.
Four minutes later forward Nasiruddin doubled the margin from a Wali Faisal cross with Jahangir standing idle. He was instantly replaced by Iran Sheikh.
In the 61st minute Wali Faisal floated a curling cross and Emily managed to head the ball past Iran Sheikh but much to the dismay of the forward it came back off the crossbar.
Away at the Chittagong MAAziz Stadium, Dhaka Abahani rode on the brace from their Ghanaian forward Sheriff Deen Mohammed in their 2-0 win against Chittagong Mohammedan.
Sheriff, who scored the match winner in Abahani’s previous match against Chittagong Abahani, struck in the 26th minute and converted a penalty in the 73rd minute.
Moroccan forward Samir Omari continued his scoring spree netting another two in the 3-0 victory of Sheikh Russell over Beanibazar to take his tally to nine, the highest in the league.
Omari hit the back of the net in 25th and 48th minutes while his strike partner Yusuf scored the other on 81 minutes.
