Third Person Singular Number goes for Oscars

Popular TV play and film director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s latest feature film ‘Third Person Singular Number’ has been selected by the Oscars Bangladesh Committee to represent Bangladesh at the Foreign Language Film category for the 83rd Academy Awards (Oscars).
The 83rd Annual Academy Awards will be presented in February 27 next year.
Oscars Bangladesh Committee chairman, Abdus Selim announced it at a press-briefing held at a hotel in the city on Wednesday. Bangladesh Federation of Film Society has organised the event.
Bangladesh Film Editors Guild’s president Abu Musa Debu, Bangladesh Cinematographers’ Association president Abdul Latif Bachhu , filmmaker Shameem Akhtar and actor Rokeya Prachi among the members of Oscars Bangladesh Committee were present at the press conference. Channel i director Shykh Seraj and film director Mostafa Sarwar Farooki also spoke at the function.
The Oscars Bangladesh Committee also includes Bangladesh Film Pradarshak Samity general secretary Mirza Abdul Khaleq, noted film music director Alauddin Ali and Film Director Samity’s director general Shah Alam Kiron.
About the selection process, Abdus Salam said that the committee has selected the film contested by two other films-Khalid Mahmood Mithu’s ‘Gahine Shabdo’ and Khijir Hayat’s ‘Jaago’. In the final-stage of selection, the jury board considered the attractive and enjoyable dialogues, quality cinematography and contemporary subject matter of the film.
‘The story of Farooki’s film revolves around single woman’s struggle to survive in the society. Thus the film directly addresses the issue of empowering the women’ added Abdus Salam.
Mentioning the consecutive success of Impress Telefilm as six film productions by the house have been selected by the Oscar Bangladesh Committee so far, Shykh Seraj said, ‘It is our responsibility to send the best Bangladeshi film at the Foreign Language Film category in Oscar to represent our creative film industry.’
Farooki hoped that his film, which has already won several international film awards, might be selected for screening at the Oscars. ‘The film might also bring us what we are expecting for so long,’ he said.
