Hosts Bangladesh will take on India in the last Group B match of the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship qualifiers at 7:00pm at the Kamalapur Stadium today. Earlier, Iran will face Jordan in a group deciding game at 3:30pm at the same venue.
Table-toppers Iran, with six points in their tally, need just a draw to win the group and move into the next round. However Jordan, who have three points after they were upset by India in their last match, have got a chance if they beat Iran by a margin of 5 goals. After two matches Iran’s goal difference is 8+ while Jordan have 4+.
Zahra Ghanbari, the midfield lynchpin and skipper of Iran, was hopeful of continuing their dominance. ‘We will take to the field to win, we are close to achieving our target and we don’t want to slip from that position, we are not thinking about Jordan, we want to win,’ said Zahra.
Jordan captain Ayah Faisal is determined to stage a comeback. ‘We want to produce our best against Iran, we want to win to prove ourselves,’ said Ayah.
Bangladesh girls are tired after two huge defeats against Jordan and Iran. India, boosted by their 2-0 win over Jordan, will be looking to carry on the good form means the Bangladesh women will get little respite in their final match.
