Muktis maul Navy
The starstudded cast of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will take to the field for the first time in the Grameenphone Federation Cup at the Birshreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mostafa Kamal Stadium today. The newly formed club, with 16 players who play for the national side, are expected to dazzle the Federation Cup which has been pretty much drab so far.
The Dhamnondi Club have brought stars like Aminul Haque, Zahid Hasan Emily, Enamul Haq, Wali Faisal, Mohammad Sujan, Mamunul Islam under their umbrella and had a week-long training camp to gel the stars from different clubs at their camp in BKSP. So, all eyes will be on the new powerhouse in local football when they take on Youngmen’s Club of Fakirerpool in their first round match at 5:45 pm today. In the earlier match of the day, Bangladesh League team Arambagh Krira Sangha will take on invited club BKSP.
Another favourites for the season’s curtain raiser tournament, Muktijoddha Sagsad mauled Bangladesh Navy 8-1 at the same ground yesterday, thanks to a hattrick from former Sheikh Russel star Mohammad Rony. Bukola Okalyken started the goal feast in the second minute while Zahed Parvez Chowdhury finished it in the 92nd. In between Rony got a hattrick, Maruf Ahmed scored twice and Moga added one Mamun scored the consolation goal from the penalty spot for Navy. In the other match of the day, Farashganj Sporting Club won against Bangladesh Air Force by dint of a Jewel Rana goal in the 36th minute.
