The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was observed across the country yesterday.
Different rights and social organisations observed the day with elaborate programmes.
Karmojibi Nari held a rally at Muktangon in the city yesterday where its leaders stressed the need for raising massive awareness and integrated efforts to stop violence against women as it has reached a critical level.
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) arranged a candle lighting and documentary show in front of Teacher Student Centre at Dhaka University to mark day.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique attended the programme as the chief guest.
Steps Towards Development organised a campaign programme at Bangladesh Shishu Academy premises. Inaugurating the programme, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said apart from enforcing strict laws, raising social movement is a must to curb violence against women including stalking.
UNFPA in collaboration with Bangladesh Musical Band’s Association (BAMBA) will arrange a youth concert at the Army Stadium in the city on December 3.
Odhikar and Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Rights (BSEHR) also organised programmes to mark the day.
