Rahmatganj MFS started their Bangladesh League campaign with a 2-1 win over Arambagh KS at the Kamalapur stadium on Saturday.
Arambagh were unlucky to lose the game as they conceded an own goal in the 55th minute giving Rahmatganj all three points from their opening match.
The match was not a very attractive one as both the teams played a disjointed football and they lacked enough speed. The winners took the lead in the 33rd minute when their Ugandan recruit gave a harmless cross from the left flank and an Arambagh defender headed the ball clear which fell came into the path of Rahmatganj forward Jamal Hossain who was standing unmarked in the penalty area. Jamal juggled the ball twice before shooting past Arambagh goalkeeper who had nothing to do but to watch.
The match winning goal came in the 55th minute when Rahmatganj’s Nigerian collection Paul Mcjames’ goal-bound shot was punched by Arambagh keeper Mostafizur Munna, but the ball hit his colleague Akram Hossain’s knee and rolled over the goal-line, though the referee awarded the to Paul.
However, Arambagh refused to give up. They returned one in the 85th minute. Arambagh’s Liberian recruit Benjamin Cooper tucked home a rebound after Rahmatganj goalkeeper Iran Sheikh had parried a Sayed Rashed Turjo effort.
