Rahmatganj MFS and Brothers Union won their away matches of the Grameenphone Bangladesh League beating respective rivals at different venues yesterday.
A first-half goal from Idris Kasirye helped Rahmatganj edge past neighbouring Farashganj SC to maintain their third position with 13 points from seven matches, one point less than joint second-place Abahani, Sheikh Russel and Sheikh Jamal as Muktijoddha Sangsad lead the table with 16 points.
At the Birshreshtha Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur, Ugandan striker Idris headed a Pranotosh cross from the left home to give Rahmatganj a lead in the 34th minute before a second-half equaliser was ruled out by the referee Jashimuddin due to handling the ball, though it seemed that scorer Shohel Rana controlled the ball through his chest before firing it home from inside the box.
The Farashganj players protested the ruling of the referee, resulting in a moment in a momentary stoppage. However, the game resumed and finished without further incident.
Away at the Cox’s Bazar Stadium, Brothers Union posted their second victory to leapfrog to fifth position with nine points after beating hosts Chittagong Abahani 2-0, thanks to second-half strikes from Enock Bentil and Everton.
Chittagong Abahani are at the bottom with two points after suffering five defeats in seven games.
