Bollywood stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Akshay Kumar, Anushka Sharma were the main pullers to turn the Bangabandhu National Stadium into a sea of people at the Tri Nation Big Show Thursday evening.
Artistes from the host countries of the ongoing ICC World Cup Cricket — India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka — performed at the show. It was organised by ATN Event, a sister concern of ATN Bangla, and sponsored by the Destiny Group.
Audience in their hundreds started gathering at the stadium from 3:00pm while the performance by Indian stars began at 10:30pm.
Anushka Sharma, the first among the Bollywood stars to appear on the stage, performed on the hit song Dance Pe Chance.
Next came Katrina Kaif with her sizzling performance on her hit number Sheila Ki Jawaani amid huge applause from the audience.
Akshay Kumar arrived on the stage riding a crane, accompanied by his dance troupe and kept the audience filled with joy with his popular numbers and spontaneous jokes. He performed on the hit tracks Tees Maar Khan and Paisa Paisa and at one point Sharma joined him.
Salman Khan was appeared on the stage with his troupe all on a suddenly at 11:45pm and the whole audience burst out in ecstasy and cheering ‘Salman, Salman, Salman…’ But Salman finished his performance very briefly with three songs including Dabangg, O Oh Jane Jana and Humko peeni hai.
Earlier, the programme began with the performance of Bangladeshi artistes in the evening. Popular singer Farida Parveen, Kiron Chandra Roy, Suvra Dey, Chandana Majumder, Eva Rahman rendered popular Bangla songs.
Popular Indian singer Pritom Chakrabarti and his band Metro rendered their seven hit numbers while Sri Lankan band Quest rendered their numbers in the Sinhalese language.
Bangladeshi film star Sakib Khan also performed on the stage with the popular track from Bangla film named Number one Shakib Khan and few other pop songs.
A total of 28 thousands of tickets for the show were sold out in six categories — gallery tickets at Tk 2000, bronze ticket for Tk 3500, silver at Tk 10,000, gold at Tk 25,000, platinum at Tk 1 lakh and priority at Tk 2 lakh, one of the organisers told New Age.
The audience were on the whole disappointed as the stars presented really brief performances.
Nasif, one of the audiences, said, ‘I don’t understand why the ticket price is so high while the stars stayed on the stage for less than ten minutes each?’
Manoj Bhole, assistant choreographer of Salman, Kaif and Sharma’s performance, said, ‘The performances of these three stars were pre-scheduled for eight minutes each.’
During the programme, the organisers failed to provide chairs to many of the audience. Numerous intruders gathered in front of the stage and barred the audience’s view.
Nawar and Farhan came from Dhanmondi with two gold tickets to enjoy Bolleywood stats performance. But they expressed their utter disappointment as they could not see the stage because of those who entered the auditorium without tickets.
