The selection of Vincent Barnes as the new head coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team has left skipper Sakib al Hasan heavily surprised as the all-rounder had no previous idea about the South African.
BCB president AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday told reporters that they were at the final stage of an agreement with Vincent, who served as the assistant coach of South Africa national team from 2003 to the last World Cup.
‘Who is he? Where did he work in the past?,’ a surprised Sakib asked New Age after he was informed about the choice.
‘I don’t know anything about him and frankly speaking I have heard his name from you for the first time,’ he said.
Sakib is set to leave for England to play county cricket for Worcestershire and will not be getting introduced to his new coach until July 16 when he is expected to return. Sakib declined to make any comment when asked if the BCB was right to choose a coach with a fast bowling background.
‘Because I don’t know anything I think it won’t be appropriate for me to make a comment on the issue,’ said Sakib.
‘It is up to the board to decide who they will pick as the coach. They must have some reasons for selecting him. I can only say after I meet him in person,’ said Sakib.
