Noted theatre actor-director Lucky Enam is coming up with yet another project on the biranganas of the war of independence in 1971 just after a decade of her first direction of Ami Birangana Bolchhi.
Her latest theatre venture Bideho depicts the stories of sacrifices of the war heroines of 1971 through three women actors. Among them, two actors- Momena Chowdhury and Jyoti Sinha- also have experiences of performing in the roles of war heroines.
Earlier, Lucky Enam dramatised, directed and acted in Dr Neelima Ibrahim’s Ami Biramngana Bolchhi.
The production was premiered in 2002 in a festival organised by Lucky Enam’s troupe Nagorik Natyangon celebrating the artist’s 30 years in theatre.
This time she is directing Shahman Moishan’s play Bideho, which has been produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy as part of its yearlong celebration programme
marking 40 years of the victory of the country.
Bideho unfolds the untold sufferings and disgrace of the war heroines during the war, Lucky Enam told New Age. ‘The sufferings of those unfortunate women of the war
will be presented to remind the nation about their sacrifices for the country.’
‘The agony of those women will be depicted by three characters: two “biranganas” and a war child. But, it will not be a saga of pains and sufferings, rather the
viewers will get the message of ensuring their honour and dignity in the society,’ Lucky hoped.
Talented director-designer Sudip Chakraborty has designed set and light while another young designer Kamruzzaman Rony will contribute as music director. And Bideho
will be premiered on September 1.
Bideho is the 18th theatre direction by Lucky Enam. The seasoned artiste wishes to present more theatre highlighting the issue of biranganas in future. ‘After knowing
the stories of the biranganas and having conversations with them, I’ve got mental attachment with the war heroines and as an artiste I’m trying to express it through
my artistic venture. I want to ensure their honour and dignity through my works,’ she said.
‘It’s true that 10 years is a long time for directing another production on the war heroines. But, with the real life stories that I’ve in my collection, I will be
able to create new theatre productions on the issue, not necessarily for my troupe but I’ll also try to encourage other organisations to produce those,’ she added.
The second show of Bideho will be staged in the six-day theatre festival scheduled to be organised celebrating Lucky Enam’s four decades in theatre in September. The
festival which will continue from September 4 to September 9 will feature five other plays directed by Lucky Enam including Shoroma, Pragoitihashik, Sei Sab Dingulo,
Pushi Biral O Ekjon Prokrito Manush and Muktir Upay.
