Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday provided financial assistance to the family members of 36 victims of Tazrin Fashion Factory, who were burnt to death in November last year and identified through DNA tests. The Prime Minister handed over a cheque of Tk 7 lakh to each family of the victims at her office. The identities of these victims could not be ascertained initially as they were burnt severely.
Earlier, on December 4, the Prime Minister handed over Tk six lakh to each of the 62 families of the Tazrin Fashion Factory, who were identified initially.
At least 111 garment workers were killed in a devastating fire that broke out at the Tazrin Fashion Factory in Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka last year.
Another report says: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to give special attention to slum dwellers while implementing the programmes of National Council of Woman and Child Development (NCWCD).
The Prime Minister gave the directive while presiding over the meeting of National Council of Woman and Child Development at her office (PMO).
PM’s press secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters after the meeting.
Sheikh Hasina, also the President of the Council, asked them to ensure the fair distribution of various allowances under the social safety net programme to increase the number of beneficiaries so that more than one member of a family cannot get more than one government allowance.
Emphasising the importance of ensuring the healthcare of slum children and their education, the premier asked the official concerned to make proper coordination between the activities of Women and Children Affairs Ministry and Social Welfare Ministry to ensure optimum utilisation of government funds.
