Iron deficiency causes death of 3,000 women every year in Bangladesh because of severe anaemia during childbirth and iron deficiency anaemia is a common problem among Bangladeshi women.
These were revealed at a scientific seminar organised jointly by Singapore General Hospital and Chittagong-based Surgiscope Fertility Centre on the Chittagong Club premises on Saturday.
The speakers at the seminar claimed that more than one-third of Bangladeshi women were iron deficient.
Both foreign and local doctors addressed the seminar.

The speakers also
dwelt on infertility issue in Bangladesh, terming it a big concern for the
country.
They said infertility was a very sensitive issue having negative impact on conjugal life besides causing familial disharmony, bitter relationship and separation between husband and wife.
