The Rajshahi district police on Friday organised a daylong workshop emphasising people’s knowledge of law for stopping unexpected police harassment.
The workshop was held at Kaisar Rahman Auditorium of
Rajshahi Medical College in the city.Lawmaker Enamul Haque attended the workshop as chief guest and distributed 30,000 law guides among teachers and students who took part in the programme presided over by Rajshahi police super Alomgir Kabir.
Rajshahi divisional commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed, Ranjshahi range deputy inspector general of police Mir Shahidul Islam, additional commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sarder Tamij Uddin, Rajshahi education board chairman Professor Tanbirul Alom,
deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Mezbah Uddin Ahmed and Rajshahi University psychology professor Mojibul Haque Azad addressed the programme among
others.
They agreed law enforcers were frequently depriving the general people and harassing them as they had not enough ideas about their basic rights.
The speakers at the programme focused on disseminating the knowledge of laws among students to ensure fundamental and human rights.
Over 500 teachers and students from different colleges and schools, social and human rights activists and news personnel took part in the workshop.
