The ministry of commerce has decided to ban the export of green chilli, aubergine, cucumber and coriander leaves to increase supply and keep their
prices under control during the month of Ramadan.
The decision was taken as per the recommendation of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry on special consideration only for the month of Ramadan, said a FBCCI release Saturday.
The FBCCI leaders have congratulated the government for taking the decision, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
It said, ‘the FBCCI also conveyed their sympathy to the exporters concerned for their inconvenience as the export order ban was taken for the greater interest of the people.’
The government had banned exports of green chilli, aubergine, onion and garlic in July 2012, for the month of Ramadan.
The ban on onion and garlic is still in force.
Bangladesh exports vegetables and fruits to the Middle East, the UK and other countries, for migrant workers and non-resident Bangladeshis.
The prices of chilli have soared to Tk 100 a kilogram from Tk 70 and onion to Tk 48 a kg from Tk 45 in the last one week.
The prices of aubergine remained high Tk 40-Tk 50 a kg while the garlic price dropped to Tk 80 a kg from Tk 100.
