Arambagh’s appeal for staying in league rejected
The forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League next season might be based upon a three-legged round robin format where the top flight clubs will play each other thrice – two
times on a home-and-away basis and once in a neutral venue.
In a bid to present more matches to the domestic clubs, the Bangladesh Football Federation has recommended the professional league committee to organise the upcoming season’s domestic football league in three legs instead of the customary two.
Dhaka’s Bangabandhu National Stadium is being touted as the neutral venue.
The number of teams in the league is likely to remain unchanged and each team will get the opportunity to play at least 35 matches in a season instead of the 25 matches of the recently concluded season.
Hence, the application of Arambagh Krira Sangha was declared null and void. Arambagh had previously applied for promotion to the top flight after being relegated last season.
The BFF executive committee provided a guideline to the professional league committee after a short discussion on their emergency meeting on Monday and suggested an increase in the number of top-tier matches.
The professional league committee will meet today to finalise the new format of the domestic league.
