The renowned Tagore singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya entertained a full-house audience at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre on Saturday.
The small auditorium of the Centre was teeming with music lovers and the ambiance enjoyedthe Tagore’s numbers.She presented songs of various genres of Tagore from the different episodes of the Gitobitan, a collection of Tagore songs, at the programme. Before presenting the Tagore numbers, Bannya, a teacher at the music department of Dhaka University, also talked about the songs and the backgrounds of composing those.
Bannya began the show by presenting a melodious devotional number DhaiJeno mor sakol bhalobasa from the puja episode of the Gitobitan.
The audience also loved her presentation of another devotional number Amare tumi ashesh korechho.
The celebrate singer moved the audience presenting some romantic Tagore songs such as Tomar Khola Hawa, Chander hashi bandh bhengeche and Bhenge mor ghorer chabi. In the rainy evening, the seasoned Tagore singer entertained the audience presenting Tagore’s unique number highlighting the monsoon such as Borisho dhara majhe and AjiJhorer ratey.
The solo musical programme ended with a presentation of a sentimental number titled Aji Je Rojoni Jay featuring the sadness for the bygone and passing time.
However, the magic of melody created by Bannya in the two-hour show was etched into the audience’s mind even after the show.
‘Bannya has one of the most enchanting voice and style of singing among the Tagore singers both in Bangladesh and Paschimbanga. It is a great privilege to get her and listen to her’, said Ankan Banerjee, director of IGCC.
‘Bannya is the most brilliant Tagore singer now. I thank IGCC for arranging such a beautiful Tagore evening’, said Mamunur Rashid, an audience.
