Popular rocker and also the founder of the leading band LRB, Ayub Bachchu has decided not to release any more albums in CDs unless the disheartening and off-putting scenario of the audio market/industry changes.
The singer is ready with around 35 new numbers for his audience. But, as the country’s audio market/industry is suffering from an ‘almost irrecoverable disease,’ Ayub Bachchu, widely known as AB will not release them in CDs. He is going to release them digitally.
Already 10 songs and background stories of the songs are available for audience in Robi Radio. These are released in a form where audience can enjoy them, but not download those. ‘It is safest that way,’ AB says.
Before leaving for Kolkata, where the band performed on Saturday and Friday at a music festival, AB shared about his present activities and other issues with New Age on Wednesday.
When asked about the present scenario of audio market/ industry, AB shrugged his shoulder saying ‘no comment’. The conscious singer, however, did not hold back for long. ‘I have time and again voiced against the dishonesty and treachery that is gnawing at the heart of the industry, but to no avail’, continued a disheartened AB. ‘The production houses should know their duties. They do not create music, so there is no question of them being the owner of music. Their duty is to distribute.’
AB also expressed his dissatisfaction about the fact that many respected and veteran singers of the country do not show any interest in the piracy issue.
‘I have warned my fellow singers not to release songs with their own money. It is necessary to make the companies understand that music doesn’t come out of the blues,’ AB said.
The task of making the companies understand is not in the hands of the musicians, opines AB. There are existing laws, and law enforcers should do the task. Dishonesty of any kind should not go unpunished, he says. ‘If the creator does not own his/her creation, then who does?’ with this AB requested to change the topic.
The creator of many evergreen numbers, AB formed his band in 1991. Named LRB (Love Runs Blind), the band’s twenty-two years’ journey is a phenomenal one. ‘Music is the thing that runs through my vein and crowd is oxygen to me.’
‘My journey to this day has not been a smooth one. I was not a fortunate one to get familial and financial support. I had to create space for myself. It has been possible only because I had passion and devotion,’ said AB.
About the emerging and newcomers in music, AB is not a shrugging veteran. He welcomes everyone, and suggests them to take music seriously and professionally. He admits that a number of rock bands are very much promising.
‘In a digital age like this it is easier for them to learn and know. The only thing they need to have is passion and devotion. And if passion and devotion walk hand in hand, good music awaits on their path and good day will surely come for them,’ AB said for the young.
