Top officials of Abahani Limited have interviewed Australian coach Nathan Hall for the upcoming season, an official revealed on Tuesday. ‘It was a productive discussion between the two parties, but we are yet to finalise him,’ Abahani football manager Sattyajit Das Rupu said on Tuesday.
Rupu also said that Hall had been the head coach of Indian I-League club United Sikkim FC in 2012, replacing interim player-coach Baichung Bhutia.
‘Hall worked for different clubs in Australia, Thailand and Indonesia as a head and assistant coach, and later he joined United Sikkim FC. He wants to guide our team in the upcoming season,’ Rupu added.
Hall, a 28-year-old former footballer, started his coaching career at a young age with minor roles at state league clubs Sutherland Sharks FC and the APIA Leichhardt Tigers Under-20s soccer team.
After failing to land a head coaching position or an assistant’s job in Australia, he signed up as an assistant coach for Thai Premier League side Thai Port under head coach Sasom Pobprasert.
Hall, who is now waiting for an AFC A-licence, initially demanded a $7000 monthly salary but eventually agreed to guide Abahani for $5000-a-month.
Hall arrived in Dhaka on Sunday for the interview and left on Tuesday night.
