Two Dutch footballers of Surinamese origin arrived on Tuesday for a trial at Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited’s pre-season training camp.
Chevello De Rijp and Melvin Grootfaam have both played for Dutch second division side Stromvogel Telstar in the past. The 23-year-old playmaker Grootfaam made eight substitute appearance for Telstar last season, while 24-year-old centre-forward De Rijp is currently unemployed but played in the Belgian top-tier league (Jupiler Pro League) a couple of seasons ago.
‘We don’t have much information about Bangladesh football, but we know that football is popular in Bangladesh and two Dutch coaches are in charge of the national team,’ said De Rijp, who was called up to the Dutch U-21 side in 2008.
Zulfiquar Haider – the agent who brought the two players to Bangladesh – said that a 28-year-old Belgian-Moroccan attacking midfielder named Rachid Tiberkanine, who currently plays for FAR
Rabat in Morocco and previously played for Levski Sofia and Bayer Leverkusen’s B side, would also join the camp within a couple of days.
The MSC training camp currently has five foreigners, including these two latest recruits. The other three are Baybeck of Cameroon, and Kaderi and Cisse of Nigeria. Only Baybeck has thus far been confirmed as a member of the side.
Meanwhile, Mohammedan have still not resolved the issue of advance payments to the players. The players joined the camp under assurances that the club would make advance payments before completing the player transfers.
