The state minister for social welfare, Promod Mankin, on Tuesday awarded a reception to the Bangladesh team back from the Special Olympics: Asia Pacific Games held in Australia.
During the reception at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Mankin said that if the persons with disabilities get proper training they will achieve many things for the country, according to a press release issued by the ministry.
The state minister went on to say that even the normal sports teams of the country have been unable to scale such successes previously.
Mankin also said that the government had taken initiatives to construct a sports complex for sportsmen with disabilities.
The Bangladesh contingent claimed 43 gold, 20 silver and seven bronze medals in the recently concluded Special Olympics: Asia Pacific Games.
The Bangladesh team also had the honour of being the unbeaten champions in cricket and football.
