The Bangladesh Football Federation held a rally on Sunday to kick off the celebration of the arrival of the FIFA World Cup trophy which is due this week.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin led the rally that started from the Bangladesh Football Federation House and ended at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Former and current players, BFF executive members and football organisers attended the rally held with an aim to create hype among the football lovers about the arrival of the glittering trophy.
Organisers claimed that the World Cup trophy which will arrive on Tuesday is the original one, not a replica. The trophy will be kept in the BNS for public viewing.
Salahuddin on Sunday called on the president Mohammad Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban to formally request him to receive the trophy at the airport when it arrives.
‘He [Salahuddin] requested the president to receive the World Cup trophy at the airport and the president gave his consent,’ BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag, told reporters. ‘Now his office will confirm the programme tomorrow (Monday) morning.’
