Bangladesh Football Federation general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag on Sunday said that Kazi Salahuddin is expected to remain in his post of South Asian Football Federation president as he is the lone candidate. ‘BFF president Kazi Salahuddin put forward his nomination paper with the support of four countries – Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan and Nepal. No other candidate presented their nomination as at February 17, the last day of submission,’ said Shohag.
Shohag added that the official announcement will be made on March 2 during the SAFF Congress in Dhaka.
Salahuddin will serve his second tenure as president. The BFF supremo took over from Ganesh Thapa, who reigned 11 years as the previous president from 1999 to 2010. Thapa was the first ever president of SAFF, the South Asian regional football governing body.
Under the influence of Salahuddin, SAFF introduced two new competitions – the SAFF Women’s Championship and the SAFF Under-16 Championship.
