Sheikh Jamal DC set a new record for the biggest margin of victory in their last game of the first phase of the Bangladesh Premier Football League as they routed Uttar Baridhara 8-0 at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday. Sheikh Jamal’s attacking duo Emeka Darlington and Wedson Anselme scored seven goals between themselves while skipper Mamunul Islam completed the comprehensive scoreline by grabbing the eighth.
Following the conclusion of the first phase of the league, the Dhanmondi-based outfit are at the summit of the standings with 21 points, two ahead of second-placed Abahani Limited.
Uttar Baridhara, on the other hand, suffered their biggest defeat in the league with their previous thrashing of 7-0 coming against Team BJMC in their fourth game of this edition.
The newly-promoted side have conceded 29 goals in their nine games but they are still eighth in the 10-team league with six points while Feni Soccer Club with five points are at the bottom.
Nigerian hitman Emeka, who is the highest scorer of the top-flight so far with 11 goals, opened the scoring in the 10th minute as his header off a Yamin Munna cross from the left flank went into the far post.
Emeka doubled Sheikh Jamal’s lead in the 21st minute as he found a pass from Mamunul from the left wing and placed the ball into the net after dodging a defender inside the box.
Haitian marksman Wedson made the score line 3-0 in the 35th minute with Ashraf Mahmud Linkon producing an angular cross from the right flank and Wedson made no mistake heading the ball home.
Linkon was brought down by Khalekuzzaman inside the box in the 37th minute and Emeka duly registered his second hattrick of this season by converting the spot-kick.
Emeka notched his fourth in the 54th minute when his header off a Rony cross from the right flank went crashing into the net.
Wedson scored his second in the 63rd minute as he placed the ball into the net after a fine cross.
Wedson went on to complete his maiden hattrick in the league in the 77th minute after receiving a through pass from midfield. The Haitian forward recorded the league’s fourth hat-trick with two coming from Emeka and another belonging to Sheikh Russell’s Mithun Chowdhury.
Manumul scored the eighth goal in the 87th minute thus sealing the record scoreline as his left-footed attempt from the edge of the box went into the back of the net.
