After becoming the hero by scoring the decisive goal against Abahani Limited on Sunday, Mohammedan striker Wahed Ahmed made a plea to the team management to provide him more opportunity to play in the first eleven. This was Wahed’s third goal in a row in the same number of games which helped his get into the Bangladesh Premier League title race. Though he was the architect of the black-and-white’s precious win, Wahed gave the all credits to his team-mates for their spirited display against their old enemies.
‘This not the first time I scored against Abahani. I remember that I scored against them two years back, but this time I’m happier because my team won from my strike. And I rate this goal as one of my best,’ said Wahed.
Wahed also admitted that due to his silly mistake his side had conceded a shock defeat against Team BJMC in their previous match.
‘Though I scored against BJMC, it’s also true that I wasted a lot of sitters and that caused the defeat against BJMC,’ he added.
‘In today’s [Sunday] match all the players were alert about not making any mistakes.’
Meanwhile, Abahani’s Iranian coach Ali Akbar blamed his forwards for his team’s loss. He also claimed that due to some injuries to his charges he failed to put out the best eleven in the field.
‘Our two regular defenders –Waly Faisal and Samad Youssef – are injured. So, I had to reform my defence. Though they did fine but for the lack of an ideal finisher we could not win,’ said Ali Akbar.
‘We wasted three clear chances in the first 15 minutes and after conceding the goal we failed to create any notable chances to restore parity.’
