Brothers Union thrashed newcomers Uttar Baridhara 5-0 thanks to a treble from their Nigerian forward Kester Akon in their Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday. In addition to Kester’s hat-trick their Haitian forward Augustine Walson scored a brace to avenge their first round loss to Baridhara. With their sixth win in 14 matches Brothers are now breathing down the shoulders of third-placed Mohammedan with 22 points, a point behind the black-and-white giants.
Uttar Baridhara were expected to give Brothers a tough time following their stunning 3-0 win over Team BJMC in the previous match.
But the tie turned into a one-sided affair once Brothers took the lead in the fifth minute through Kester, who side-volleyed to find the back of Barishara net from inside the box.
The Nigerian doubled the margin in the 27th minute with a placing shot.
Uttar Baridhara hit back with a goal through Sujan Biswas two minutes later but the Gopibagh outfit widened the margin in the 40th minute after a brilliant solo effort from Haitian Walson.
The Haitian took the match away from Baridhara when he grabbed his second goal on the stroke of half-time.
Kester then completed his hat-trick, the league’s fifth, six minutes into the second half.
Interestingly, four out of five hat-tricks were slammed against Uttar Baridhara, who are now in eighth position with 10 points from 14 matches.
