Abahani Limited reduced the gap with table-toppers Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club with a 2-1 win over Team BJMC in the Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday. The win which came after three consecutive draws saw Abahani take their tally to 43 points, still nine points adrift of Jamal. Portuguese playmaker Leonildo Suares put Abahani ahead in the 20th minute as he received a ball from Ghanaian Awudu Ibrahim and drilled it past BJMC keeper Arifuzzaman Himel.
Abahani keeper Shahidul Alam Sohel produced a stunning save in the 34th minute to keep away Saiful Islam’s volley off an Ismail Bangoura free-kick from the edge of the box.
Rajib levelled the margin for BJMC just three minutes later as the defender headed home from an Abdullah Al Parvez corner.
Abahani, however, restored the lead two minute before the first half when Ghanaian forward Morrison provided a through pass to his compatriot Ibrahim on the left side and the latter beat the goalkeeper with a powerful shot from inside the box.
